Shaanxi tourist activities

There are also various kinds of tourist activities available for people to be close to the picturesque scenery of Shaanxi, such as drifting, skiing, mountain climbing, hot spring bathing, etc.

The land of Shaanxi is dotted with hot springs, popular resorts including those located in Huayin, Lintong, Lantian, Mei County, and Mian County. The famous Tang poet Bai Juyi once wrote lines such as “the early spring chill is driven away by bathing in Huaqing hot spring, the water of which runs over and makes her silky skin” to show that Concubine Yang enjoyed the Huaqing hot spring.

Huashan Royal Hot Spring

The Huashan royal hot spring is located at the foot of Huashan Mountain, with its water gurgling from a depth of over 2600 m underground at a temperature of 105?. The water is rich in silicic acid and 30 other health enhancing minerals. Hot spring therapies, such as the “Traditional Hot Spring Norm” and the“Royal Five” are the essence the Huashan Royal Hot Spring. Against the steep Huashan Mountain, the royal hot spring offers its visitors a secluded and relaxing venue.

Huaqing Hot Spring

Huaqing Hot Spring, the “First Spring on Earth,” is estimated to have formed about 2,000,000 or 3,000,000 years ago. The ancient Qiang people availed themselves of it about 6000 years ago and many emperors in later dynasties made it into a royal bathing site. The water keeps a constant temperature of 43?C all year round and is immune to seasonal changes. For thousands of years it has run “together with the sun and the moon, day and night, in a constant flow, never overflowing, never exhausting, as formidable as the heaven and earth.”

Drifting along the Lanhe River

The Lanhe River, located in Langao County, Ankang City, sees much haze around its two banks, hence the name “Lan.” The famous Tang poet, Wang Wei, once wrote in his poem, “Waterfalls, spruces and pine trees often support water drops, upon which the sinking sun succeeds in creating haze and rainbows.” The area where a visitor can drift lazily along measures 12 km in length and is sometimes open and wide and other times narrow and steep as it winds its way along the valley. It is surprisingly safe even when considering the effects of passing waves caused by transiting boats.

Drifting along the Danjiang River

The Danjiang River is said to have earned its name because of the special kind of fish--the Dan Fish--which promotes people’s longevity. It has attracted many celebrities. Drifting on a raft feels like flying on clouds and enables people to experience sceneries alongside the river. Getting close to the wilderness, tasting country food, singing “fly or stay, the cloud has its own choice; rise or fall, the tide has its own choice; and I, just enjoy a free life of myself”, are all wonderful experiences that visitors do not want to say goodbye.

Huashan Rock Climbing Festival

Huashan Mountain, ranking first among the Five Sacred Mountains in China for its steepness, enjoys the name of the “Most Perilous Mountain on Earth.” The unique characteristics of Huashan Mountain make it an ideal resort for mountain and rock climbing and is a paradise for visitors to challenge the limits of their courage and physical strength. Therefore, the Huanshan Rock Climbing Festival has become a popular event.

Skiing

In order to enrich tourism in Shaanxi, six ski resorts have recently been developed: the Yuhua Palace in Tongchuan, the Cuihua Mountain in Xi’an, the Bailu Mount, the Fengyu Valley, the Taibai Mountain in Baoji, and Muhuguan in Shangluo.
