Beijing Sets up Olympic Security Command CenterThe Security Command Center for the Games of the 29th Olympiad was formally established in Beijing on June 30, 2005. Qiang Wei, deputy secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and chief of the Olympic Security Coordination Group, and Liu Jinguo, vice minister of Public Security and first deputy chief of the Coordination Group, unveiled the plaque of the command center at the founding ceremony. The Beijing Olympic security command center will serve as the leading organization responsible for organizing and directing security operations of the 2008 Olympic Games. The establishment of the command center marked that Beijing has embarked on all-round operations to guarantee security for the Games.
