Public Participation1. Continuous Involvement of Environmental Advisors In 2004, BOCOG went on inviting wellknown environmental experts including Liang Congjie, Jin Jianming, Liao Xiaoyi, Liao Xiudong as the environmental advisors to participate in the compilation of regulations, work plans and provide suggestions on Green Olympics. 2. Communication with Environmental NGOs On December 29, 2004, BOCOG invited representatives from a group of local environmental Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) to meet and share their experience in environmental promotion and education. Representatives from 18 Environmental NGOs introduced their work&achievement in 2004 in environmental education, translations of environmental films, promotion of community-based environmental protection activities, protection of biodiversity and preservation of rivers. They also put forward suggestions on how to promote the idea of "Green Olympics" among the people. 3. Rewarded Test on the Web During the World Environment Day of 2004, BOCOG held a rewarded test on the Green Olympics column of its official website in order to attract more people to participate in and understand the Green Olympics. In fact, the answers can be found in the website and reflect Green Olympics. The activity lasted for a month. Several famous websites, including some websites of different environmental organizations, linked with BOCOG's website and introduced this activity at the same time. About 7,000 persons from more than 20 provinces participated in the test. 4. Participating in Activities of Environmental Associations in Colleges In 2004, BOCOG participated in several activities, such as developing green school and protecting wild animal, initiated by associations in colleges. Students from China University of Political Science and Law put forward a proposal: to add a bit green for both Beijing and Olympics. About one thousand students signed their names on a 20.08-meter long banner so as to indicate their support for the Green Olympics. 5. Participating in Communication and Education Activities of NGOs In 2004, BOCOG participated in communication and education activities of NGOs actively, encouraged them to take advantage of their expertise to develop more and better activities, promoted green life and support the Green Olympics. The activities BOCOG has attended included Chinese-English bilingual speech competition for middle and primary school students held by Beijing Environmental Protection Fund, pictures exhibition held by Friends of Nature, green education on trains held by Global Village of Beijing, etc. More and more people and families attended such activities to protect the environment, conserve the resources and practice the Green Olympics and also it is expected that the families and whole society will work together for "Green Olympics".
