Environmental Management of Olympic Projects

In 2004, a symposium on sustainable development of Olympic venue projects was held, the Environmental Guidelines for renovated venues was developed, the environmental requirements for several sport events were formulated. The Environmental Impact Assessment reports of some Olympic projects were finished under the supervision. Green construction were actively promoted among Olympic construction sites as well.

1. Symposium on Sustainable Development of Olympic Venue Projects

On the symposium held by BOCOG on February 29, 2004, Executive Vice President Liu Jingmin put for ward environmental requirements to all parties related to the construction of the Olympic venues. Administrators from the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Commission of Science and Technology, the State Environmental Protection Administration introduced the preferential policies in environmental protection of China. Some environmental protection experts gave introductions to the newly released Guidelines for Environment Protection in Olympic Construc tion Projects. More than 300 officials from various departments of the Beijing municipal government, developers of Olympic venues and managers of environmental protection enterprises attended the symposium.

2. Environmental guidelines

The Environmental Guidelines for renovated venues and the Environmental Guidelines for Olympic Overlays were developed in 2004 and incorporated into the Designing Guidelines for Olympic Projects.

The planning, designing and constructing process of renovated projects and overlays shall meet all the requirements of these guidelines.

3. Green Construction Management

In 2004, BOCOG, Beijing 2008 Project Construction Headquarters and Olympic construction enterprises cooperated to push forward the implemention of Green Construction Guidelines. Following the Green Construction Guidelines for Olympic Projects, the National Stadium and other Olympic venues have developed implement rules, established Environmental Management System (EMS), set up management schemes and made positive effects.

According to the environmental management guidelines of Building Green Construction Site, Establishing Green Projects, Realizing Green Olympic, the National Stadium has incorporated environmental management into the engineering supervision.
