1. Beijing International Environment Forum 2004

On September 14, 2004, BOCOG and the Beijing Municipal Environment Protection Bureau jointly held the "Beijing International Environment Forum 2004". It focused on the subject of "Improving Beijing's urban environment, Preparing for a Green Olympics".

Li Binghua, executive vice president of BOCOG, attended the meeting and gave a formal lecture on it. IOC environmental advisor, environmental experts from Sydney and Turino in which Olympic Game will be held or has been held, several environmental specialists and scholars were invited to the forum.

On the forum, they discussed the issues of environment protection and sustainable development of big cities like Beijing, gave some suggestion on how to improve the environmental quality of Beijing, how to deal with the relationship among economy, environment and society harmoniously, and how to organize a green Olympic games.

2. Annual Meeting of IOC Sport and Environment Commission

On May 3rd, IOC Sport and Environment Commission held an annual meeting in Lausanne. The representatives from BOCOG, Athens Organizing Committee (ATHOC), Torino Organizing Committee (TOROC) and Vancouver Organizing Committee (VOCOG) attended the meeting and exchanged experiences on environment protection. IOC Sport and Environment Commission heard the reports and gave some advice.

On behalf of BOCOG, Wang Wei, executive vice president of BOCOG gave a presentation about Green Olympics, introduced the environment protection work of BMG and BOCOG, and answered several questions such as protection of cultural relics and historical cultural sites in Beijing, work methods and relationship between BOCOG and NGOs. Mr. Pal Schmitt, chairman of the IOC Sport and Environment Commission praised the work of BOCOG.

3. Learning and Exchange

In 2004, IOC environmental advisors continuted supporting BOCOG's environmental work, gave an environmental training lesson held by Olympic Game Knowledge Service (OGKS) Company, observed the green construction of Olympic projects, and heard a report about Communication Plan on Green Olympics, etc.

During the time of Athens Olympic Games, the staff of BOCOG EAD participated in and observed the environmental work directly, and gained a lot of environmental experiences on Olympic organization. Therefore, BOCOG has built a strong base for Beijing 2008.

4. Other International Conferences and Exchanges

In 2004, BOCOG had also participated in several international conferences on environment, such as international conference about the 10th anniversary of Chinese environmental label, forum on how Hong Kong¡¯s small enterprises participate in Olympic projects, the International Symposium on Biological Polyesters 2004, etc. On the conferences, BOCOG exchanged its environmental protection experiences with experts and promoted its theme of Green Olympics.

On May 20, BOCOG had received the National Award of Promoting "Eco-label" from the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA). The award was given at the international conference about the 10th anniversary of Chinese Environmental Label.
