FON's Bird Watching Group

Watching birds in the wild as a hobby started from Europe, and has been over 100 years and a major item of outdoor leisure activities. In USA, bird watching population is up to 60 million. In China, however, watching birds in the wild had only been specialists' research before 1990s.

FON's bird watching group, the first voluntary bird watching group in China, was built in 1996. In the past years, the group following professor Gao Wu of the Capital Normal University have had many initiatives.

1.Bird watching. Till now, we toured in many places in Tianjin, Hebei, Henan, Neimeng, Liaoning, Anhui, Hunan, Jiangsu and we've got many experiences. A net for organization and connection are convenient and telescopes are available for members.

2.Ornithology lecture. About several dozens lectures were hold. Many professors from the Nature Musseum, China Sicence Accademy, Beijing Normal University, Capital Normal University etc. gave us the lesson of ornithology knowledge and recent news of ornithology research.

3.Propagandizing and science reasearching. Large scale propagandizing action is hold annaully together with many reports of bird loving and bird watching in all types of media. We have taking part in birds resource investigating actively and publish an actual-use oriented bird watching hand book whose name is "Beijing Wild Birds Illustrated Handbook".

Through bird watching, you may get close to nature, be familiar with nature, learn scientifical method and cultivate environment protection awarness. If you are FON member, you may take part in bird watching group.
